Compare cleaning services
Quick answer: You can book a house cleaner in Australia in five main ways: through a marketplace such as Airtasker, a franchise such as Jim's Cleaning, an introduction agency, a cleaning company, or a booking platform such as Simply Maid. What differs most is who chooses the cleaner, how the price is set, who you pay, and who sorts out a problem.

Each city guide sets that city's local cleaning businesses beside the national services, with prices, terms and checks from their own pages.
The label on a website doesn't always tell you how a service works, so it helps to know the five arrangements and check which one a business actually uses.
Read the terms, not just the home page. Some businesses talk about "our cleaners" in their marketing while their terms say the cleaners are independent contractors, or that the business acts as an agent. For how each arrangement changes cover, payment and what happens when something goes wrong, see independent cleaner or cleaning company?

Employment, franchise, contractor and introduction models allocate selection, payment, attendance and remedies differently. These are questions for the chosen service, not claims that any model always assigns a duty to a particular party. Establish who selects the cleaner, who receives payment, who manages absence and who can authorise a remedy. A business name or platform label alone does not answer those questions.
Get the responsibility for each job in writing.
All five take bookings in each of the seven cities we serve. Here is how each one works for a regular home clean, from its own pages.

| Who chooses the cleaner | The job is offered to available cleaners near you; you can't choose a named cleaner when you book.[6]Cleaners are independent contractors who set their own availability and accept or decline work. | You choose a Tasker from the offers, after checking their profile, badges and reviews.[7]There's no obligation to accept any offer. | Your job goes to the franchise that covers your area.[3] | The agency matches a cleaner; you can ask for a replacement.[4] | Maid2Match assigns your cleaner and names them when the booking is confirmed; you can ask for a change.[5] |

House cleaning is advertised from $149 for a three-bedroom single-storey home.[3]A basic scope: vacuuming, mopping tiled floors, dusting, bathrooms and kitchen surfaces. The Tasker's own service fee comes out of the agreed price, not on top. | Not stated in the sources we reviewed | Not stated in the sources we reviewed | Not stated in the sources we reviewed |
| Equipment and products | The cleaner brings products and equipment, including a vacuum and mop.[12] | Agreed for each task; there's no platform default.[13]Customers are asked to say what equipment they have; Taskers arrange what's needed. | The local franchisee supplies equipment and products.[14] | Regular cleans use your products and equipment; once-off and end of lease cleaners bring their own.[4]The cleaner can bring equipment to a regular clean for a small extra charge. | Maid2Match supplies products and equipment; you can ask for your own products to be used.[5] |
| Cleaner checks | Cleaners are identity-verified and pass Simply Maid's skills assessment.[6] | ID verification is required before a Tasker can be paid, but not before they make offers.[15]Airtasker describes badges as point-in-time checks. A police check badge is optional for Taskers.[16]Shown only when the check has no disclosable outcomes; valid for up to 12 months. | House cleaners are described as police-checked and insured.[14]A brand-level statement; checks are carried out by each franchise. | Five steps: phone and face-to-face interviews, identity check, national police check and work history check.[4] | Police check and NDIS worker screening before hiring, plus interviews.[5] |
| Insurance | Care & Cover on every booking includes up to $10 million public liability insurance through Chubb.[17]Conditions and exclusions apply; report damage within 48 hours. | Third-party liability insurance up to $10 million, through Chubb, for registered Taskers.[18]Excludes poor workmanship and cash or off-platform jobs. If you're still unhappy, a review and a fair credit or refund.[20]Doesn't apply if access, water or power was missing, or the scope changed after booking. | A free dispute service once work has started; Airtasker reviews both sides and decides.[21]Its insurance excludes poor workmanship, and it suggests asking Taskers about their own cover. | Jim's Work Guarantee: unsatisfactory work is inspected and fixed. If you disagree, an independent expert you both accept reports at Jim's cost, and you don't pay until it's resolved.[22]Applies only up to a posted limit for work by independent contractors. No reporting window stated. | If a clean isn't up to standard, the agency works with you and the cleaner to fix it or arranges a different cleaner.[4]No time window published; bond return isn't guaranteed. | A cleaner returns to fix the problem; if you're still unhappy, or don't want a re-do, a partial or full refund.[19]No time window found in the pages we reviewed. |

| When you pay | A card hold about 48 hours before the clean; the charge is taken after it.[24]Visa, Mastercard or American Express. | Your card is charged when you accept an offer, and Airtasker holds the money until you release it after the task.[25]Released payments can't be recovered in a dispute. Cash isn't supported. | A deposit may be asked for on larger or complex jobs.[14]General payment timing wasn't found in the pages we reviewed. | You pay the cleaner directly at the end of each clean, by card, bank transfer or cash.[4] | Card only, charged when the service is completed.[23] |
How to read this table. Each cell is what that business publishes, with a numbered source under the table. "Not stated in the sources we reviewed" means we couldn't find it, not that the business doesn't do it. The prices aren't like for like: they cover different home sizes and scopes, and some are hourly. For what a clean costs across the market, see house cleaning prices.

Listed means the business names the city on its own site. It doesn't mean every suburb is covered, or that someone is free when you want them. Some suburbs means its pages name only part of the city. Not confirmed means the business's own pages disagree about the city or don't make it clear. Jim's Cleaning depends on a local franchisee. Each city guide adds that city's local businesses; many more aren't covered here. Sources are listed at the end of this guide. Checked 6 October 2026.

With Simply Maid, a standard clean of a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is $317 one-off, live from our booking calculator, including GST and the Care & Cover fee. What house cleaning costs in Australia compares other businesses' published prices like for like.

Compare equivalent work and arrangements before comparing prices. Unstated fees or terms remain unknown until confirmed; this diagram does not rank providers.

Method
We compare what each business publishes about how its service works, not how well any one clean was done.
Sometimes, but compare the total. Airtasker's own house cleaning pages show median task prices of $150 to $170 across our cities, before a Connection Fee of $9.95 to $59.95. Those figures cover homes of every size and scope, so check what's included before comparing them with a fixed price.
Not always. In this guide, Maid2Match's terms say its cleaners are its employees. Absolute Domestics, Family Clean and Inner City Maids say theirs are independent, Maid to Clean recruits contractors, Jim's Cleaning works through franchisees, Airtasker's Taskers are independent contractors, and Simply Maid books independent cleaners.
They describe different checks. Absolute Domestics, Family Clean, Maid to Clean, Maid2Match and Jim's Cleaning say their cleaners are police-checked. On Airtasker, ID verification is needed before a Tasker is paid and a police check badge is optional. Simply Maid's cleaners are identity-verified and pass its skills assessment.
It depends on the service. Simply Maid, Maid to Clean, Maid2Match and Jim's Cleaning say the cleaner brings products and equipment. Family Clean, and Absolute Domestics for regular cleans, use yours. On Airtasker it's agreed for each task.
Most services aim for it on regular visits, but few promise it. Maid to Clean allocates a regular cleaner for weekly and fortnightly bookings, the agencies usually keep one cleaner per home, and Simply Maid aims to keep the same cleaner on a regular plan. On Airtasker you can rebook a Tasker you've used.
Oneflare's website now redirects to Airtasker. Airtasker's help centre says Oneflare was retired on 30 June 2026.
hipages passes your job to local businesses, who quote, and its app listing says posting a job is free. We couldn't review its customer pages for this guide, so check its current terms for fees, checks and cover before you book.
No public figures rank home cleaning businesses in Australia by size, so we can't say which is biggest. Several work nationally: Jim's Cleaning has franchises in every state and territory, Airtasker's marketplace covers the country, and Maid2Match and Absolute Domestics list all seven cities we serve.
It depends on what you want to keep the same. For one person every week or fortnight at an hourly rate, agencies such as Family Clean and Absolute Domestics match a regular cleaner. For a fixed price for your home with the cleaner arranged, a cleaning company or booking platform such as Maid2Match or Simply Maid publishes one before you book. To choose the person yourself, Airtasker lets you rebook a Tasker you've used.
Each city guide here lists what that city's cleaning services publish about price, and our guide to house cleaning prices compares published prices like for like by home size. Compare the same home, scope and frequency, and check whether GST, products and fees are included.
We cover services that appear often in search results across the seven cities we serve. Many local businesses aren't listed, and the same questions work for them too.
